Todd Meadows, a crew member on one of the fishing boats featured on the long-running reality series Deadly Catch, has died.He was 25.
Rick Shelford, captain of the Aleutian Lady, announced in a Facebook and Instagram post Monday that Meadows died on February 25.
"We have lost our brother," Shelford wrote in his lengthy tribute."Todd was the newest member of our crew, who quickly became family. His love of fishing and strong work ethic instantly earned him the respect of everyone. His smile was contagious and the sound of laughter on the wheelhouse steps or on deck is something we will always carry with us."
"He worked hard to love and bring joy to those around him.""Todd will be a part of this boat as crew and brotherhood forever. Even though we have lost him for so long, his legacy will live on with his children and in all the memories we take from him."
The death of Alaskan fisherman Phil Harris is commemorated in the film Deadliest Catch.
A fundraiser started in Meadows' name described the sailor from Montesano, Wash., as the father of "three wonderful boys" who died "doing what they loved - hitting the water in Alaska."
Meadows died after reportedly falling overboard about 170 miles north of Dutch Harbor, Alaska, according to the Associated Press.
"The crew recovered it unresponsive about ten minutes later," Chief Petty Officer Travis Magee, spokesman for the Coast Guard's Arctic District, told the Associated Press.The Coast Guard is investigating the incident.
Meadows was a first-year cast member of "Deadliest Catch," the Discovery Channel reality series that follows crabbers navigating the dangerous winds and waves of the Bering Sea while fishing for Alaskan king crab and snow crab.The series debuted in 2005. None of Meadows' seasons have aired.

Deadline reported that the show was in its 22nd season at the time of the incident, and the Shelford-led Aleutian Lady was the last vessel still at sea at the time.Later, the production ended, at the point of sale.
"We are deeply saddened by the death of Todd Meadows," a Discovery Channel spokesperson said in a widely circulated statement. "This is a devastating loss and our hearts go out to his loved ones, his crew and the entire fishing community during this incredibly difficult time."
Meadows is the latest "Deadliest Catch" cast member to die.Previous deaths include Phil Harris, captain of one of the boats featured in the show, who died after suffering a stroke while filming the show's sixth season in 2010. Todd Kochutin, a crew member on the Patricia Lee, died in 2021 from injuries he sustained while aboard the fishing vessel, according to an obituary.Other cast members died of substance abuse or natural causes.
