No.2 Arizona clinched the Big 12 regular season title with a 73-57 win over No.6 Iowa State on Monday night.
TUCSON, Ariz. -- Jayden Bradley scored 17 points and Motejos Crevasse (13) had 12 as No. 2 Arizona defeated No. 6 Iowa State on Monday night (73-57).
The Wildcats (28-2, 15-2) used big runs in each half to defeat No.14 Kansas 84-61 on Saturday to secure at least a share of the conference crown.
Arizona won it outright, stifling Iowa State's defense to give Tommy Lloyd his 140th win, the most in NCAA history in the coach's first five seasons.
"The Big 12 is the best basketball conference in the country," Lloyd told the home crowd after the game, "and to win it by a few games is pretty impressive. So hats off to these guys right here."
After their first home loss of the season, the Cyclones (24-6, 11-6) labored against Arizona's physical defense, shooting 29% from the field, including 7-of-30 from 3-point range.
During the post-game press conference, Lloyd addressed the narrative surrounding his team by discussing the Wildcats' tenacity and physicality.
"I think it's too lazy to say we're weak. I mean, look at our stats, look at our analytics - we're a great rebounding team, we've always been in the paint," said Lloyd.
Tammin Lipsey led Iowa State with 17 points, but leading scorer Milan Momcilovic had just five points on 2-for-8 shooting.Momsilovich is the nation’s best three-point shooter, shooting 51% from three and going 1-for-5 from beyond the arc.
Neither team could do much, because of good defense and bad shooting.
Iowa State shot 9-for-33 and 4-of-20 from the field in the first half.
Arizona worked most of the half as the Hurricanes focused on defending the paint before the Wildcats closed on a 15-3 run to lead 37-25 at halftime.
Iowa State got off to a rough start in the second half.The Cyclones missed their first eight shots as Arizona extended its lead to 16.
Iowa State briefly slowed down, using a 10-1 run to pull within 44-37, but didn't score for more than five minutes as Arizona extended its lead to 15.
