The Microsoft Copilot server on Discord has seen some scrutiny
Posts that mention "Microslop" have been blocked
Microsoft has reportedly taken further steps, including restricting or blocking several channels
If Microsoft was hoping that the unfortunate reputation it created for the company this year would go away, it didn't - and the new event may not help.
Windows is the latest to report that it has blocked posts on the official Microsoft Copilot server Discord that mention 'Microslop', a nickname that Microsoft's CEO accidentally used in early January 2026 with a comment about AI.
This site is a member of the Disruption Society, and the use of this word in a post implies that the message is blocked. As shown in the video from Windows Latest, they received a notification from the server's moderators that the post was banned for "inappropriate content".
However, since the moderation was done through a simple keyword filter, it was easy enough to avoid paying.Windows Recently noticed that changing 'Microslop' to 'Micr0slop' – putting the number zero in place of the letter – was enough to get your mail through, and of course fully preserved the meaning.
Note that a group of people invented the nickname, and it forced Microsoft administrators to restrict some of the servers, reportedly blocking or limiting many channels. The latest Windows said that many criminals still have their action permissions turned off and their message history hidden.
As of earlier today, the site noted: "Many channels show limited visibility or closed states, indicating the server is effectively in a suspended state as moderators attempt to regain control of the conversation."
Analysis: inconsistent timing
Obviously, this "restriction" measure will be temporary, but it's a draconian attitude from Microsoft here.Okay, fair enough - this is the official Microsoft Copilot space on Discord, and the company reserves the right to maintain an appropriate tone for discussions there. No doubt Microsoft wants to run a constructive forum and believes that insults like "Microslop" are not appropriate or helpful.
I understand that, but at the same time, the result of the rather heavy filter that seems to have just been introduced is not very good. While Microsoft has the right to do this through these channels, the company's regulators risk making a bad situation worse.
As you can see in X, the latest Windows done post, there's a lot of angry feedback from people who aren't fans of how Microsoft is pushing AI hard in Windows 11.As some of them point out, if Microsoft tries to bring down the censorship hammer in a way that seems harsh, it will cause a bigger backlash.
Some people in the X thread have already created alternative nicknames for 'Microslop', such as 'Slopilot', for example. This is a double dig at Microsoft as it actually not only refers to "slop" but also has an alternative meaning of "slow" which can be read here.
One user X said: "If they are dedicating themselves to banning words, this is the beginning of the end. You tell the internet not to use Microslop and you go up to Slopilot."
Microsoft is trying to repair its reputation and is rumored to be 'reevaluating its AI strategy on Windows 11', and refocusing on fixing the basics of the OS – but episodes like this won't help that effort.
