Toronto Blue Jays’ Randall Grechuk says he supports MLB’s decision on Friday to pull the All-Star Game on July 13th from Atlanta, saying voter suppression should be “summoned”.
“When there is voter suppression, he should be called in and the MLB obviously came forward and made the decision to transfer him. He told reporters before Saturday’s Blue Jays match against the New York Yankees.”
League Announce this move Amidst a wave of backlash from companies to sweeping changes to voting laws in Georgia that have been denounced by critics as being too restrictive.
“I’ve decided the best way to show our values as a sport is to move this year’s All-Star Game and draft MLB,” said Manfred on Friday. “Major League Baseball basically supports the voting rights of all Americans and opposes voting restrictions.”
Manfred’s decision was made after discussions with the Players Alliance, an organization of black players that formed after the death of George Floyd last year, and other singles players.
New all-star careers are yet to be revealed.
Georgia’s new voting laws, which Republican Gov. Brian Kemp passed last week, impose a number of new restrictions, including stricter identification requirements, which disproportionately affect minority and low-income voters, and restrict voting by mail. It also gives state officials more powers in local elections.
