In 2003, the golden age of reality TV, a simple proposition emerged: marry American Idol with the real world and bring it into the world of modeling.Hosted by Tyra Banks, who broke industry standards to become one of the industry's most recognizable supermodels.Now a new documentary takes an unprecedented look behind the scenes of the smash hit that followed America's Next Top Model.

On February 16, Reality Check: Inside will reveal the inner workings of the America's Next Top Model show, which has peaked with a global audience of more than 100 million viewers.The three-part series, directed by Mor Lushi and Daniel Sivan ( American Manhunt: Osama Bin Laden ), features interviews with key ANTM players who reflect on their time on the show and its legacy — highs and lows — more than two decades after it aired.

What happened to America's Next Top Model?

Created by Tyra Banks and developed by Ken Mok and Kenya Barris, America's Next Top Model ran for 24 seasons — or "cycles," as they were called on the show — from 2003 to 2016. Each cycle followed a group of new models from across the United States who lived together, competed in challenges and were eliminated during the week.The eventual winner was named "America's Next Top Model" and was honored in a fashion magazine and signed with a major fashion brand and modeling agency.

The series broke new ground by featuring contestants from communities previously ignored by the fashion industry, but was also known for its increasingly exotic stunt shots and forced cosmetic changes – including drastic haircuts and invasive dental surgery.The judges' scathing criticism of the contestants' body shape, weight and appearance was one of the show's viral moments.

Since ANTM ended a decade ago, longtime fans and new audiences, spurred in part by the pandemic era, have revisited the show and taken to social media to reconsider its place in the culture, dissecting controversial moments and questioning whether the contestants were treated fairly.In the docuseries, Banks, Mok and former judges and contestants speak directly to those questions and reflect on the show's complicated history.

In 2003, former makeup artist Jay Manuel joined Antm as part of its inalaytical series as creative director, and J.
