The Lord of the Rings hits UK theaters –

The Lord of the Rings is coming to theaters in the UK in the form of a musical.

Produced by West Berkshire’s Watermill Theatre, promises An immersive experience in an open air setting, with the Lambourne River as a backdrop.

The show features music by AR Rahman (Bombay Dreams, Slumdog Millionaire) and Christopher Nightingale (Matilda the Musical), and will open on Bilbo Baggins’ 11th birthday.

The official description reads: As the Hobbits celebrate Bilbo Baggins’ eleventh birthday, he presents his nephew Frodo with his heirloom – including his most prized possession – a golden ring.

Little does he know that his legacy will confront Frodo with an enormous and impossible task; A perilous journey through the darkest realms of Mordor to thwart the Dark Lord’s quest for total domination.

Step from the theater to the Watermill Gardens, immerse yourself in Tolkien’s magical spectacle and join a large-scale choral cast and puppets on an epic journey that celebrates the power of friendship and common good to defeat unimaginable evil.”

Paul Hart, Artistic Director of The Watermill Theatre, added: “We will be giving fans a very visceral experience when they come to The Shire for their eleventh birthday [111st] By Bilbo Baggins “On Our Garden”.

Tickets to The Lord of the Rings the Musical will go on sale March 15th for Watermill supporters, March 21st for email subscribers, and March 22nd for general sale.
