Longtime "Grey's Anatomy" cast members Kim Raver and Kevin McKidd -- who play Teddy and Owen -- are leaving the show after the end of Season 22.
Goodbye Teddy and Owen!Grey's Anatomy will say goodbye to two of its veterans — pun intended — when Kim Raver and Kevin McKidd leave the series in the season 22 finale of the long-running ABC medical drama, which airs May 7.
The two former Army majors, who met in Baghdad during the Iraq War and eventually (finally!) married in "Grey's Anatomy" season 18, drifted apart and reconnected over many seasons.McKidd joined the cast during Season 5, and Raver was cast in a recurring role the following season;it became a series regular later that season.2010 At the end of Season 8, Raver left the series of his own free will, only for a guest appearance in Season 14 and then for real in Season 15.McKidd and Raver's departure is said to be a creative decision and, as with other "Grey" stars going forward, the firmament will return. The production ended in the 22nd season.
Although it's been a rough road for Owen and Teddy lately — they're officially divorced, they've tried an open marriage with miserable failure — a statement from Grey's Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes, included in the full text below, suggests that they may be riding off into the sunset after all."It's both heartbreaking and happy to give this couple the happy ending they deserve," Rhimes wrote.Emoji eyes!

Kevin McKidd speaks
Grey's Anatomy is a huge chapter in my life, both creatively and personally, and I'm so grateful for all the shows it's given me over the years.Acting and directing Dr.Owen Hunt on the show has been incredible for me, and I've had the privilege of working with such an amazing group of people during that time.I am especially grateful to Shonda Rhimes for creating Owen and for the encouragement she gave me as a director.
As this chapter closes, I look forward to the future — building new careers, telling new stories, and taking what I've learned into the next phase of my career.
Statement by Kim Raver
The personality of Dr. Teddy Altman will always hold a dear and special place in my heart.Sixteen years ago, I had the extraordinary honor of stepping into a role thanks to the vision of Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Byers.Since that day, bringing Shonda's famous words and our wonderful team of writers to life has been a true gift.
I'm especially grateful for the leadership and heart of our current showrunner, Meg Marinis, and I want to honor the tremendous talent of the showrunners who came before her, including Krista Vernoff, who has led the way in shaping Teddy's journey over the years.
I feel very fortunate to have worked under the brilliance of Debbie Allen, who not only mentored me, but welcomed me into the director's chair. To my incredibly talented teammates and our amazing, hard-working team: playing in this arena with you is a joy, and I will always hold this company in my heart.
To the fans - your unwavering dedication and support is what keeps this show going so strong.Thank you for making this set my magical place and home.
Shonda Rhimes statement
Over the years, we've had the privilege of watching Owen and Ted's love story develop and deepen as two characters who always seem to find their way back to each other. It is both bittersweet and happy to give this couple the happy ending their story deserves.
Kevin and Kim bring great talent, character and heart to their roles as Owen and Teddy.Your contributions will leave an indelible mark on Grey's Anatomy, both in front of and behind the camera.I'm so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with both of them and watch them shine.
While we will all miss seeing them in the halls of Gray Sloan Memorial every day, I am excited to see where Kim and Kevin's journey takes them in the future.
And Marinis' statement
Kim and Kevin will always be treasured members of the Grey's Anatomy family.
Over the past eighteen seasons, Kevin has brought incredible depth and heart to Owen Hunt.Originally a stoic and traumatized surgeon, Owen became a loving husband and father, helping to shape the film's emotional foundation for viewers around the world. In addition to his great on-screen performances, Kevin was also a great leader for our characters and crew, directing nearly 50 episodes.
For twelve seasons, Kim has wowed us with her strong and raw portrayal of Teddy Altman. Her performance as a veteran female doctor and cardiologist has inspired us all, especially women who must constantly fight for their place in space.Kim also went behind the camera and directed episodes with the same passion and storytelling instincts that defined her career as an actress.
While their story is coming to an end, it's never goodbye. We are endlessly grateful for the years of performances, artistry and memories he has made, and we look forward to cheering him on for what is to come.
