Paul Allen estate denies ESPN Seahawks report: 'Our focus is on winning the Super Bowl'

SEATTLE - The Seattle Seahawks will go up for sale - sometime - after this Super Bowl, but it's not clear when.

An ESPN report on Friday, citing sources, said the team would be put up for sale after the Super Bowl and could set a record price for an NFL team: $7 billion to $8 billion.

KOMO News senior reporter Chris Daniels issued a statement through Paul Allen's estate in response to Friday's ESPN report disputing his claim. You can read the full statement below:

We do not comment on rumors or speculation, and the team is not for sale. We've said it will change at some point according to Paul's wishes, but there's nothing to share.Right now, our goal is to win the Super Bowl and complete the sale of the Portland Trail Blazers in the coming months.

ESPN reporters Seth Wickersham and Brady Henderson cited sources as saying that discussions about a sale had been ongoing at the league and ownership level for at least the past week.

Seahawks owner and Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen died in 2018 after a long battle with cancer. After his death, his younger sister, Jody Allen, took over as executor of the estate of Paul G. Allen and his two teams, the Seattle Seahawks and the Portland Trail Blazers.

The plan was always that his late brother would eventually sell both teams and donate the proceeds to charity.

In May 2025, KOMO News reported that the estate of Paul Allen announced the sale of the Trail Blazers. In September 2025, an agreement was reached to sell the NBA team to a group of investors led by Carolina Hurricanes owner Tom Dundon.

It was believed that the estate had to sell the Blazers and Seahawks within a certain period of time. The situation of the Seahawks was further complicated by a provision in the agreement to build Lumen Field that prohibited the sale of franchises if a new owner did not pay 10% of the sale price to the state. This provision expired in 2024.

Given the Allen estate's statement Friday afternoon, it's not a matter of if, but when, the sale of the Seahawks will come sooner rather than later. But for now, all eyes are on winning the championship on February 8.

Allen bought the Seahawks in 1997 after Washington voters created and approved a public-private partnership plan to build a new stadium that is now Lumen Field. The team played in the Super Bowl again in 2014 and 2015, winning its only title in 2014 with a 43–8 victory over the Denver Broncos.

KOMO News is working to gather more information and this article will be updated.
