In the new Netflix documentary Being Eddie, Eddie Murphy explains why he avoids Hollywood awards shows and discusses his Oscar controversy.
In his 40-year career, Eddie Murphy has never been a fan of the glitz and glam of Hollywood.
Netflix's latest documentary "Being Eddie", being "Eddie", being "Eddie" explains why it comes out with Dollywood, Hollywood Awards and how he describes the 64-year-old old man - how he describes the 64-year-old Eddie.
"That's one of the reasons why I'm not going to prize shows and stuff, the feeling of being in a room full of famous people who all want to win a trophy, that feeling is such a feeling," he told usa Today.

"I've always loved being indoors," Murphy continued. "The people I know, they love it ... they love it. They love it. They love it. They love it.
"My batteries are charged in a quiet environment when I'm at home, or I'm in a place where everything can slow down, where I get energy," he added."The audience robs me of my energy."

But he has never won an Oscar.
Murphy, who began his career as a stand-up comedian at the age of 15, made his breakthrough on "Saturday Night Live" in the 1980s. Over the next few years, he landed leading roles in various films, including "Beverly Hills Cop," "Boomerang," "Harlem Nights," "Coming to America" and more.
"The Early 80's" Murphy, who found mega-success in the early 80's, became one of the greats.
"I wanted to be as fun as Richard [Pryor]. I wanted to be as cool as Elvis [Phrodley]. And I wanted to be as stupid," he said.
According to film producer and director Reginald Hudlin, Murphy has a mission.
"One of the quiet aheads that are said to you," hey, it's never been a black romantic comedy before. It was never a black romantic comedy before. We need to do it so other people can do it, and if I can use my influence to open the door, it's great. '
“There was a really extreme reaction because it showed black life in a way that had never been shown on screen before,” Hudlin said.“There were a lot of negative forces in Hollywood then and now. Black movie stars always had to overcome all these obstacles, but those obstacles were predefined.”

"When they came to me, when they asked me to present the award for best picture, my manager came up to me and said that the Academy had chosen me," Murphy told the audience."My first reaction was, 'No, I'm not going.'And my manager said, 'Why?'They will win.
“I’ll never win an Oscar for saying that, but hey, what the hell,” he said."Honestly, I can't find any problem because it's been about 20 years since we had one, so it's not even around 2004. This time it's all going to blow up."
"I just want you to know, I'm going to give the number, but guests aren't going to ride outside the community and we're not going to bring you in. I want you to get to know us. They say, 'Well, it's done.'" I said, "When do I get there?" He said, "Well, you don't have to be there before 10 o'clock."

Murphy said his comments may be the reason he's never been awarded an Oscar.
"The next day I didn't say anything," Murphy recalled in the documentary."There were no pictures of me at the Academy Awards. There was no coverage of me. There was no mention of me saying that. I wasn't at the Academy Awards and I didn't get an Oscar. I didn't get an Oscar, man. I did everything. I played everything."
"I've used everything and I've never won an Oscar, but I don't think it's because of that," Murphy added with a smile.
Ultimately, though, Murphy's focus lies elsewhere.
"Someone once asked me about movies, my legacy. My legacy? My legacy is my kids. If you put your kids first, you'll never make a bad decision."
"I feel like I'm in a transitional period like Aridea," said the reporter.I feel that I don't have other things that I want to do, I don't want to do what I did before, and between these parts of my life I often look for the fate I have found between my marriage and my children and my personal life."
Murphy is the father of ten children from different relationships.He and his wife Paige Boucher married in 2024 and have two children together.
"My kids are at the center of everything," he said."Before kids, it's all about you, and when you have kids, it's all about that."
"I used to stay up maybe two days, sometimes before I went to bed," he continued. "When I met Paige, she had more on her schedule. Now I watched two episodes of 'Seinfeld' right after. Go to bed."
"Someone once asked me about films, about my legacy. My legacy? My legacy is my children," he added. "If you put your children first, you will never make the wrong decision."
Murphy is grateful for his long career and says that Hollywood success is rare.
"My greatest blessing is not my comedy talent. My greatest blessing is that I love myself and I knew early on what I wanted to do," he said."That's why I don't fall into traps or anything like that, because at the base of everything, I love myself."
