WEB DESK: India’s Right-wing party Shiv Sena on Friday criticised Pakistan for arresting star batsman Virat Kohli’s fan who hoisted Indian flag at roof top of his house in Okara, Punjab, Indian media reported.
“Umar Draz’s house was raided and he was charged with committing an offence against his country [Pakistan]. Was his mistake really this big?” an editorial published in the Shiv Sena publication said.
“Didn’t our country have fans of Wasim Akram, Imran Khan? One will find many fans of people like Mehdi Hasan, Rahat Ali, Ghulam Ali, but our government never arrested them.”
Tailor by profession , Umar Draz, 22, from Okara district of Punjab, about 200 km from Lahore, was arrested on a complaint as the police raided his home.
“We raided the house of Umar Draz and seized the Indian flag from his rooftop,” said a police official Muhammad Jamil.
Official said the police have arrested Draz and registered a case under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO). He was presented in court the same day and was remanded into police custody. Draz turned out to be a big fan of India’s Test Cricket team captain Virat Kohli.
“I am a big fan of Virat Kohli. I support the Indian team because of Kohli. Hoisting of Indian flag on the rooftop of house only shows my love for the Indian cricketer,” Draz told reporters.
Local police also found posters of Virat Kholi on the walls of Umar Daraz home.
