The US military has given high tribute to Maj Gen Harold Greene, died on Tuesday when an Afghan soldier opened fire on him in an inside attack.
Gen Greene was the most senior US soldier killed in overseas war not only in Afghanistan but even since Veitnam. He was gun down during a visit to UK run military training facility.
Afghan President Hamid Karzai said the shooting was a “cowardly attack”.
Whereas sources told that the Afghan soldier who opened fire had also been shot dead.
Insider attacks have emerged as new threat in the conflict of Afghanistan which are slowing down the process of ongoing training of country’s security forces. The training aims to prepare 350,000 security men strong enough to take on the Taliban after the US and Nato forces head off.
The recent attack on Tuesday executed the most high profile Gen Greene, where as injuring 15 other soldiers. Two British, several Americans and some generals from Germany and Afghanistan, got wounds during the attack.
Gen Greene was a technology expert and had an important role in integrating smart phones and video conferences. He brought virtual world into military culture.
