The day of Ashura has arrived. Around 1,335 years ago on the same day, Hussain ibn Ali (R.A), the grandson of Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ and the son of Ali Ibn Abi Talib (R.A), along with his companions refused to pledge allegiance to Yazid.
On request of the people of Kufa who wrote letters to him asking his help and pledging their allegiance to him as well, he travelled to Kufa. At Karbala his caravan was intercepted by Yazid’s troops. He was martyred and beheaded in the Battle of Karbala in 680 (61 A.H) by Shimr Ibn Thil-Jawshan along with most of his family and companions.
Hussain Ibn Ali (R.A) is highly regarded by Muslims around the world because he refused to pledge allegiance to Yazid. Both Sunni and Shia Muslim paid tribute to the martyred of Karbala in their own way. For Shia Muslims is the day of mourning for them.
Here is how Muslims around the world are paying tribute to the heroes of Karbala.
