Tight ‘abaya’ to be banned in Saudi Arabia


Saudi Arabia is all set to impose ban wearing of tight abayas by women in public areas, a local newspaper reported on Wednesday.


The move of imposing ban on tight wearing of one of the most opted dress of females in Saudi Arabia abaya is to be made in wake of significant number of increase in women harassment incidents in KSA.

According to the sources, the matter will soon be discussed in Shura (appointed parliament) upon request of a female member.


It further told that the decision is to be observed following a surge in incidents of molestation and harassment in the Kingdom.

“According to the sources, the Shura is expected to unanimously vote in favor of the new rule which bans women from wearing tight abayas in shopping malls and other public places in the Kingdom.” The local newspaper reported.
