Taliban will not join Afghan peace talks


ISLAMABAD: The Taliban said on Saturday that they will not join Afghan peace talks led-by four group including official of Pakistan, United States, China and Afghanistan.


“We want to categorically announce that neither the Amir-ul-Momineen (commander of faithful) nor the Leadership Council of the Islamic Emirate has decided to join the talks under the quadrilateral process,” a statement from the Taliban leadership council said.


“With the American troops remaining in the country conducting air strikes and special operations raids in support of the Kabul government, the Taliban would not participate in talks”, statement further added.

The official announcement came after diplomatic efforts by four countries are in full swing to hold direct talks between the Taliban groups and the Afghan government by early days of march.

Earlier, Quadrilateral Coordination group held meeting in Kabul in previous month (February 23), it was decided in meeting that next meeting would be conducted in Pakistan.
