Washington:On Thursday, Robert O’Neil, retired Navy SEAL says he shot al-Qaida leader Osama Bin Laden in the forehead, he publicly identified himself. In a meeting among the members of the special mission, amid a debate whether they should disclose about their secret operation- in which al-Qaeda leader was killed.
He told The Washington Post in an interview that he fired two bullets, which killed Bin Laden. One current and one former SEAL told that O’Neil was long known that shots fired by him caused killing of the leader of terror group, who was the integral part of Sept 11 attacks.
He discussed his role in the operation during a private meeting with relatives of victims of 9/11 attack on New York’s World Trade Center, he donated the shirt he was wearing in the operation, which is now on display there.
In the Esquire piece, O’Neil said he was one of the two SEALs who went up to third floor of the building, the first man fired two shots which got missed, Laden peeked out of the room. O’Neil went into the bedroom, he told that ” There was Bin Laden standing . He had his hands on woman’s shoulders, pushing her ahead, not exactly toward me but by me, in the direction of the a hallway commotion. It was his youngest wife, Amal.”
O’Neil added, “In that second, I shot him two times in forehead. Bap! Bap! The second time as he’s going down. He crumpled onto the floor in front of his bed and I hit him again. Bap! same place….He was dead.”
