WASHINGTON: Afghanistan is at the point of again turning a favorable abri for the religious extremists and jihadist rebel group like Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) as the Western military alliance NATO withdraws troops and move to elsewhere, warned by a former CIA’s top counter-terrorism official and CIA station chief in Islamabad, Pakistan, Robert Grenier.
The ex-CIA officer and CIA station chief in Islamabad, Pakistan has warned that Afghanistan is in danger in turning the shelter for the ISIS that is waging war in Syria and Iraq.
Grenier said at an event of New American think tank, “I would say if anything the future threat of an Afghan safe haven is maybe even greater than it was back before 9/11”. He further added that the Afghan Taliban will never hesitate in making alliance with the Pakistani Taliban or other jihadist group such as ISIS.
“There are groups within Pakistan that are dedicated to attacking the regime in Islamabad. They’re not going to go away,” he said.
