Afghan Taliban Leader Mullah Omar is dead: BBC

 The leader of the Afghan Taliban, Mullah Mohammad Omar has died, British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has claimed on Wednesday.

According to BBC, Afghan officials has died, but the Taliban group has not commented on the news. Mullah Omar has died two to three years ago, Afghan government and intelligence sources said, news further added.

 

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani will brief the press shortly, Afghan media said.

Mullah Omar:

Mullah born in 1960 in the village of Chah-i-Himmat, in Kandahar provine, he received his primary education from Seminary, according to Taliban.

He took part in Soviet invasion in Afghanistan in 1980s.

Mullah Omar was head of state during the period of 1996-2001. After US attack on Afghanistan in aftermath of 9/11, he has been in the hiding.

The US State Department had fixed $10 million head money on Mullah Omar.
