UK: Detective Burroughs apologizes for targeting ex-girlfriend Prince Harry

London, November 22 20:12 – (Nova Agency) Private investigator Gavin Burroughs has apologized for targeting the ex-girlfriend of Prince Harry of England in the 2000s. The News of the World (later closed in 2011) and The Sun have opened an investigation into Prince Harry’s life, called “The New Diana”, after Princess Diana’s son and ex-boyfriend of their lives. Mr Burroughs, who was also a witness in the lawsuits against the printmakers, admitted that he and the press were “cruel” in telling the young prince’s story. Legal proceedings initiated by Prince Harry against the publisher of The Sun and the News of the World, as well as against Trinity Mirror, editor of the Daily Mirror, are still ongoing, with allegations of wiretapping and other illegal news-gathering activities. Thus, Burroughs’ account once again highlights allegations of misconduct by several British publications in finding the news. (Release)
