TOKYO: LeBron James will no longer play for the USA National Basketball Team
(ANSA – AFP) – ROME, June 30 – NBA star LeBron James will likely not play for the United States national team. That’s what Team USA coach Jerry Colangelo said.
James, the leader of the Los Angeles Lakers, is a two-time Olympic gold medalist and four-time NBA champion, but he chose not to participate in the last two Olympic tournaments, also due to the physical requirements imposed by the North American League. “Time runs its course – if you are a human being, your body is built to last depending on your sport,” Colangelo said of the 36-year-old champ. LeBron has chosen not to be in the last two Olympians because he is so busy in his life. He has made a much appreciated contribution. Big, but I think his time is up.”
LeBron James played on one of the US Olympic teams that triumphed in 2008 and 2012. He was also a member of the 2004 US team that won the bronze medal in Athens, primarily in the reserve role.
The list of twelve American players selected for the Tokyo Olympics includes 2016 debutants Kevin Durant and Draymond Green, and a new generation of NBA talent. (ANSA – Agence France-Presse).
