The title of world champion in Team Optimism goes to the United States. At the World Championships underway in Bodrum, Turkey, Italy is pushing a combination of exhaustion and inexperience, exit after defeats to the United States and Thailand, having beaten only Spain on the day.
“Certainly today we are not happy – coach Marcello Meringolo analyzes and summarizes – but we accept the sport’s law, and we look forward to the next three days when the individual title is on the line.”
Elimination is not good, but it is gaining experience, especially for the starter and the young national team, who now have to take advantage of the free hours this afternoon to rest in light of the golden regattas that start tomorrow. Six more Tests are available to eye the title, and last Friday the entire national team was seeded in the gold category, and in the top 25.
“Now we have to get rid of today’s disappointment and rest well to face the last three days of the fleet’s race. There are still many points of interest and we must remain clear, thinking that this championship is still very long,” concluded Meringolo.
The final victory went to the United States, which defeated Ukraine 2-0, while the bronze medal went to Sweden.
