The Super Mario Bros. movie still arrives before its US release date
Everyone’s favorite plumber will be hitting screens sooner than the Super Mario Bros. movie gets. on an earlier release date in the United States. The film marks the latest Nintendo platform video game adaptation, now in animated format from Despicable Me, Sing Studio Illumination, and Universal. Super Mario Bros. will see titular character Chris Pratt and his brother in the fantasy world of the Mushroom Kingdom, where the former must rise up against the evil Bowser to save his friends and the world.

The above post shows that the animated adaptation of the popular Nintendo series has been moved up its release date by two days in the US and 60 other territories around the world from April 7 to 5. However, it also confirms that the Super Mario Bros. movie won’t arrive in Japan until April 28th.
Will the Super Mario Movie Early Release Date Pay Off?
While two days might not seem like much of a difference, it will be interesting to see if Universal’s decision to push the release date forward to the Easter weekend eventually pays off for a Super Mario Bros. movie. Movie. In its original history, the animated film had little new competition, with Ben Affleck’s Nike Air biopic hitting theaters two days earlier, though it now shares the same date.
On the flip side, the Super Mario Bros. Movie is on a very large list of leftovers that it will be facing at the box office on both its original and new release dates. The highly anticipated John Wick: Chapter 4 movie will make its theatrical debut just two weeks ahead of the animated movie. Their Keanu Reeves-led predecessors have rarely held onto the top spot at the box office in subsequent weeks and will rival both Shazam! Wrath of the Gods, Dungeons & Dragons: Tribute among Thieves’ Masses the following week.
Despite the various competitions, the anticipation of the Super Mario Bros. It might actually propel him to the highest-grossing Easter release, which is where Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice currently holds $166 million. This success will help build confidence in Universal and Nintendo to move forward with plans for the franchise, including rumors of a Donkey Kong spin-off with Seth Rogen reprising his role.
