The first Amazon sorting warehouse is officially established in Sardinia. It is located in Nervi Road, in the industrial area of Elmas, at a strategic point: near Cagliari Airport, State Routes 131, 554 and 130.
In fact, it has been in operation since last November, but the pandemic emergency forced the postponement of the opening that took place today, in the presence of, among others, the mayor of Cagliari Paolo Trozzo and the regional tourism advisor Gianni Chiesa.
The structure, with a total area of six thousand square meters, is the first logistics center on the island and is supported by customer service that has been in the same area for several years. Thirty employees and seventy drivers from the companies that actually carry packages work at home there.
All areas of southern Sardinia are covered: deliveries reach Riola Sardo in the west and Moravera San Vito in the east. Parcels were sorted in the southwest also in the region of Carbona up to Sant’Antioco, in the region of Sulcis. With the sorting warehouse, the number of Amazon permanent appointees in Sardinia reaches 1,200.
“And often – as Francesco Pio, director of the new structure – explains – they are young people, even recent graduates.” Safety is a priority in the structure, so much so that the sorting warehouse has already gained international recognition in these few months of life.
“This location – added Piu – will create more than 100 permanent jobs between warehouse operators hired by Amazon and drivers of delivery companies. At Amazon, we have set ourselves the goal of building an increasingly innovative and sustainable logistics network starting with our hubs. In fact, we have been The construction of this repository with special attention from the point of view of sustainability.”
“We are talking about an evolving, safe, protected and functional reality, as well as technological development – said Mayor Truzzu -. I was able to appreciate the ability in logistics organization and the fact that most of the workforce is made up of young Cagliari and Sardinians, who then enjoy the privilege of human and professional growth within The company. Cagliari traditionally provides a fertile fabric for innovative companies. What we ask of Amazon is to build a positive relationship with local trading companies in order to support the distribution of high-quality Sardinian products.”
