It is informed to the National Assembly of Pakistan that an online registration and issuance service for machine readable passport will start from April 2016.
It was disclosed by Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar during addressing on the Floor on Monday.
Initially the new online system, as said the minister, will be launched within the country while it would be expanded to foreign Pakistan passport offices later on in the next phase. Minister also informed the house that there are 83 Pakistani missions residing abroad which are permitted to issue machine readable passports (MRPs). These missions would be able to offer the new online service by the middle of 2016.
Detailing on the matter, the Interior Minister also informed that rules for official Blue Passports used to be relaxed by the discretionary power of the Interior Minister’s office in the past. The present government, however, he said annulled at least 2,000 passports under the questionable excuse of public interest.
Nisar stated that a committee of members representing various parliamentary parties would be framed to collaborate with NADEA and solve the issue on how to block identity cards under various scenarios.
Earlier, the Home Minister was to launch a passport home delivery service in the middle of 2015, but it was not made feasible and became available the previous month. This service was made official as TCS Passport Express Service and will be availed in major cities around the country.
