Board of ICT R&D Fund approved to establish the First Tech City in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: The ICT R&D Fund Co. Board has agreed to establish the first Tech-City in Islamabad and to extend the project to other provinces and metropolitans after successful launching in capital according to press release of Ministry of Information & Telecom.

The decision was made in the 35th Board of Directors meeting of National ICT R&D Fund Company held at Ministry of Information & Telecom on April 28, 2015 presided by Chairperson of Federal Minister of Information Technology Ms. Anusha Rahman. Meeting was also attended by CEO National ICT R&D Fund Company Mr. Asif Roomi, Member (Telecom) Mr. Mudassar Hussain, Member HRD Mr. Tahir Mushtaq, MD Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) Mr. Asim Shehryar and other Members of the Board.

Dr. Shahid Qureshi gave the presentation on different avenues of Tech-City model. The board was also told that funding and monitoring will be by ICT R&D Fund Co under the backing of MoIT. The Minister directed CEO ICT R&D Fund CO Mr. Asif Roomi to prepare Request for Proposals (RFP) accompanied by Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for this purpose and that project will be extended to all provinces and metropolitans after successful achievement in Islamabad.

Federal Minister IT stated that through Tech-City model, Ministry wants to develop an eco-system to promote entrepreneurship in Pakistan. This Tech-City will provide an equal opportunity to youngsters having IT background without any area discrimination so that they would get the opportunity to show their abilities to launch new IT business successfully.
