Sultan Azlan Shah, the Sultan of Perak, has died on Wednesday at the age of 86.
Sultan Azlan Shah, who has ruled over the Malay state of Perak for 30 years, was a keen fan of the sports of hockey and the famous Azlan Shah Cup annually held after his name. (Sultan of Perak is one of the oldest hereditary seats among the Malay states).
Sultan Shah was elected as the President of the Asian Hockey Federation in 1997 and kept the position till his termination. Besides, he has also been the President of the Malaysian Hockey Federation until 2005.Late Sultan was referred as “Father of Hockey”
He will be buried on Thursday afternoon at the royal sepulcher Kuala Kangsar, the royal town of Perak, Malaysia.Government of Malaysia announces a week of mourning.
Azlan has left his wife, a son and three daughters behind.
