HYDERABAD: India’s tennis star Sania Mirza has said in her recent interview that her decision to marry Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik and to shift over to doubles tennis instead of playing single were the two crucial decisions of her life.
In an interview to The Times of India, Sania said that she was unable to play tennis after her marriage back in 2010 due to wrist injury. “I was not able even to lift a comb. Then six months after the marriage, Malik convinced me to pick up the racquet again whereas I had put away my racquets in the basement”, said she.
“My wrist got better till then and I started playing again and performed well at Wimbledon. The second important decision was to focus on doubles and quit playing singles. I started playing well with different partners and the things happened well in my favour”, said Mirza.
To another question, Sania said that it was a great feeling for her to return as World No.1 on the same court where she had won her first ever title. Sania also thanked God for scripting so many good things for her and made her world No.1.
