KUALA LUMPUR: Pakistan’s Hamza Akbar claimed the title of Asian Snooker Champion after beating Indian cueist Pankaj Advani.
Hamza, 22, had a close fight with two times Asian champion from India, but in the end Pakistani player won the game by 7-6.
Best of thirteen match went on for seven long hours, in the last game score was 6-6, at the last set Pankaj took lead 52-33, but Hamza came back strongly when only 1 red ball was left on the table, young cueist smartly clear the table to beat his opponent.
Earlier in the tourmanet, Asian champion beat fellow countryman Shahram Changezi in the quater-final, to secure the place in the semi-final, Hamza drowned Malaysian player Mohammad Raza in the semi-final.
17 years Muhammad Yousaf won the title , Hazma made the count double after winning the title for Pakistan. He has earned the prize money of 7 thousand dollars.
At prize giving ceremony, Hamza Akbar said, ” Pankaj is one of the best players in Asia and I managed to beat him here. I, however made things difficult. I led 4-2 and 5-3 but allowed Pankaj into the match.
“My ambition is to become a world champion. If my sponsor agrees, I will use the professional card for the UK tour this year”.
