Pakistan ends with 34 medals as Special Olympics conclude


KARACHI: Pakistan’s Special Olympics group concluded their campaign nicely bagging 34 medals – 13 gold, 11 silver, 10 bronze – in eight disciplines as the Summer Special Olympics Wold Games 2015 finished in Los Angeles on August 2.


Among the achievers, the cyclist group were the most remarkable of the lost as winning 11 medals in total. Uzma Yousuf and Tauseef Hassan bagged two gold medals each, in Time Trial and Road Race respectively, and one gold each was won by Sumbal Yousuf and Salman Siddiqui competing in the Time Trial contest. On the other hand, Mehmoona Hussain and Khadija Irfan secured a silver and bronze each competing in the same event, and Salman also won a bronze under Time Trial.


Asim Zar ended with gold and silver in 100m and 50 Freestyle races in swimming respectively, while Aqsa Janjua secured gold in 50 m Backstroke and silver in the 50m Freestyle race.

Total number of medals was eight that were won in athletics, where Ramail Irshad bagged gold and Saira Ikram, Nadir Hussain, Amina Irshad and Amjad Khan bagged silver medals, while Marvi Azhar, Nayab Bibi, and Muhammad Waseem emerged with bronze.

In brief, the remarkable performance has naturally led to commend from number of quarters. “The players have don tremendously well in these Summer Games,” expressed Special Olympics Pakistan director Sanam Saigol.
