HOBART: In a thrilling match of World Cup 2015, Poll B Ireland secured a victory over Zimbabwe by 5 runs.
Chasing a gigantic total of 331, Zimbabwean batsmen though could not bring a good start to their team as the first four batsmen went back to pavilion when there were 74 on the score card yet the following pair played at their best. Both – BRM Taylor and SC Williams – succeeded to set a useful partnership of 149 with a handsome strike rate maintained by both of them.
Taylor scored 121 with 11 boundaries with 4 sixes, while Williams ended with 96 with 7 boundaries and 2 sixes. After their providing a good stand for the team in chasing a big score, it turned out to be a bit easier for the following batsmen to bring their team to the victory point.
However, they were getting close to their finish line but they kept on losing wickets as well. In the last over of their inning, they required 7 with two wickets in hands, but both last batsmen got out after scoring merely 1 run in the first three bowls of the last and decisive over. Ireland’s AR Cusack took four wickets.
Earlier, winning the toss, the Zimbabwean captain put Ireland to bat first. Taking advantage of this move, all the Ireland batsmen played aggressively and succeeded to mount a massive total. From Ireland, EC Joyace scored a century along with Balbirnie who score 97. From Zimbabwean bowling side, TL Chatara and SC Williams took 3 wickets each.
Moreover, with this win, Ireland is at the fourth position in Poll B with 6 points after winning 3 games out of four; while Zimbabwe is at sixth spot with 2 points after losing four out of 5 games.
