Umar Akmal is one of the few names who were once seen as future leader of Pakistan cricket but now PCB seems to go for other talent as the chief selector Inzmam-ul Haq didn’t even announced Akmal’s name for Test and Fitness camp ahead of England Tour.
Even though, Akmal who shocked the cricketing world with scoring century on his Test debut at Dunedon against England is still hopeful to get a place in ODI and T20I’s squad for England Tour.
In his latest interview with PakPassion.net, he opened up about his future and eying a comeback in national team. On a question about totally out of the scene from national team Umar Akmal replied: “Well the squads have not been announced as yet for the limited overs leg of the tour of England. Only the squad has been announced ahead of the Test series, so you never know. I live in hope, I always do. I’ve only wanted what is best for the Pakistan team and Pakistan cricket and I have always tried my best in whatever format I have been selected. I always pray that the Pakistan cricket team is successful whether I am in the team or not and that will never change. Let’s see what happens in the coming weeks and months as that will give me a clearer picture regarding my future.”
It will worth mentioning here that, Akmal is right now playing for Leicester in English County and also have contributed with 26 runs notout for the victory in last match.
Over question about his international career, he responded: “I just need to perform, get my head down and score lots of runs in whichever league I am playing in. At the moment my focus is on doing well for Leicestershire and then I will be playing in the Caribbean Premier League. After that I will play some club cricket in Pakistan and then the domestic season in Pakistan starts. I need to perform and catch the eye of the selectors; that’s all I can do and the rest is out of my hands.”
