Pak vs NZ 2nd Test: New Zealand won by 138 runs after Pakistan’s batting sudden collapse

Pakistan were given target of 369 runs after New Zealand declared it on 313 for 5. Pak openers started really well and it seemed that they would clinch an easy victory against the hosts, but the things changed quite quickly after breaking of opening partnership.

Sami Aslam and Azhar Ali scored 91 and 58 respectively. Captain Azhar Ali was first to go on team score of 131 and after this Pakistan batting collapsed badly on total of 230. Pakistan lost their last 9 wickets with just adding 99 runs to the score board.

After losing the series 2-0, captain Azhar Ali talking at the presentation said: “We came in knowing that the target was big, but we wanted to have a big partnership and then plan ahead. We had that, we had the run-rate going but in the last session, we did not bat well. Did not want to end up this way. Test wins mean a lot, and a lot more when you are 1-0 down. We wanted the run rate to go up when we approached tea but we left ourselves with too much to do in the last session, and lost wickets. I think we had a few outings here. The conditions were not as difficult as it looked. The first innings [the pitch] had a bit of grass and moisture but it looked a good batting pitch. We will take a lot out of this tour and we will try to improve our performance in Australia, which will be a big challenge in itself. As a captain, it gets tougher, but I enjoyed it.”

It would be kept mentioned that Pakistan is played this Test match without two of their prominent stars of Test cricket, Misbah ul Haq and Yasir Shah.
