ICC reveals group formation of teams, schedule for 2016 U19 Cricket World Cup

The International Cricket Council (ICCI) unveiled the thorough schedule of the upcoming ICC U19 Cricket World Cup, which would be hosted by Bangladesh in 2016.

A total of 16 teams would be seen during the mega event consisting of 48 matches, which are scheduled to be played across eight venues starting from January 27 with the final on February 14.   All the contests will be day fixtures except the semi-final and the final which would have reserve days in case of delay.   In a landmark decision, the ICC would be broadcasting 20 game of the mega event live.

“The ICC U19 Cricket World Cup is an event which provides talented youngsters an early taste of international cricket in a global setting. Countless players have come through this event, and emerged shortly afterwards on to the international arena,” ICC General Manager for Cricket Geoff Allardice said.

“It is at this tournament that the players also receive important education on topics such as anti-doping and anti-corruption, which provides them a head start on the challenges that lie ahead for professional sportsmen.

“Bangladesh has staged a number of ICC events in the past and all these have been hugely successful because of the passionate and enthusiastic crowds as well as high quality playing facilities,’’ added Allardice.

In the light of the framework for the division of teams, four teams hail in one group as following:

Group A: South Africa, Bangladesh, Scotland and Namibia.

Group B: Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Canada.

Group C: England, West Indies, Zimbabwe and Fiji.

Group D: Australia, India, New Zealand and Nepal.
