LAHORE: Pakistan’s opener Ahmad Shahzad comes back in squad for World T20 replaced Khurram Manzoor who has failed in Asia Cup. Fate of Salman Butt hanged as his inclusion was resisted.
Khurram Manzoor was surprise inclusion for Asia Cup, he was not even selected by any team in Pakistan Super League (PSL) but selector showed confidence on him, however his dismal performance in Asia Cup, where he has just scored 11 runs in three matches, resulted his exclusion.
Ahmad Shahzad has scored 290 runs in 10 innings for Quetta Gladiators during PSL, he showed signs of form but selector preferred Khurram Manzoor instead of him for Asia Cup.
Pakistan has been facing problem of opening pair who can provide solid start to team, many combinations had applied in past but no avail. The news is tainted Salman Butt has completed five years spot-fixing ban by PCB official but T20 capitan Shahid Afridi to include Butt in squad.
According to published report, a source in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) told Press Trust of India news agency on Sunday, “The selectors are desperate to find a solution to the opening problem in the Pakistan team and will also certainly recall experienced opener Ahmed Shehzad. Salman is also under consideration,”
“Afridi blames Salman for the spot-fixing scandal that shook Pakistan cricket in England in 2010, even though the former Test captain has twice apologised to the all-rounder for his misdeeds,” the source said.
“Afridi has strong belief that Salman instigated and spoilt Amir and should not be allowed to get back into the Pakistan team soon,”
