Algeria drew to qualify for the knock-out round


The match between Algeria and Russia was played at Curitiba which resulted in a drawn and provided the way for Algeria to enter the next round.


The first goal of the match was hit by Russian Alexander Kokorin when he conveyed the ball into the mark with his proficient header in the sixth minute of the match. However, Algerian Islam Slimani equalized with second-half header.

With this draw, the frustration overcame Capello (manager of Russian football team) as his team will not be participating in the rest of the tournament.


Moreover, this drawn match has pushed the Desert Foxes into the next round for the first time since they have been qualifying for the world cup. It is their fourth participation in the main event. They qualified for the first time back in 1982, followed the 1986 and 2010.

Now, they are going to tackle with Germany on Monday which played cunning role with Austria in eliminating Algeria from the first round of 1982 World Cup.

Along with Algeria, the other team which qualified for the knock-out is Belgium which captured the highest place in the group.
