Tsunami warning system out of function for two years

A tsunami warning system installed in Gwadar in 2012 has been out of function for the last two years.

Official sources said that in 2012, Met Office got control of the system, installed in collaboration with the United Nations which has stopped working as Met Office has not cleared its dues to the satellite company which was hired to issue tsunami warnings.

Though Met Office has constructed a new building in Gwadar about two years ago, but office is not still in operation as only one official is assigned duty there. Additionally, it requires more equipment and other facilities. Sources added that it appears as senior officers are least interested in making the tsunami warning system functional.
