Sushma Swaraj announces PM Modi will visit Pakistan next year

ISLAMABAD: Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj said on Wednesday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will pay a visit to Pakistan next year in order to take part in the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) summit.

“I will accompany the Indian premier during this visit,” said Swaraj while speaking to media.

She made the announcement following a brief meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad on Wednesday. Both the representatives discussed couple of issues related to terrorism, regional situation, Kashmir dispute, to trade and bilateral ties between the two nuclear-potent neighbouring countries.

The meeting was also attended by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Prime Minister’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz and PM’s Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi.

Earlier, she was received by PM Nawaz’s daughter Maryam Nawaz when the Indian FM arrived at the Prime Minister House in the federal capital.

Earlier on the day of Heart of Asia meeting, the Indian FM also met special adviser to PM Sartaj Aziz in Islamabad.

It has been a long ago when the last prime minister from India visited Pakistan as the former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee had paid a visit back in 2004 to attend the SAARC summit in Pakistan.
