Supreme Court halts Aasia Bibi’s execution


ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court of Pakistan on Wednesday halted the execution of Aasia Bibi, she was convicted on blasphemy charges, Lahore High Court (LHC) has found her guilty and sentenced her to  death.


A three-member bench of the Supreme Court admitted the petition for full hearing and also asked  for records related to the case to be presented before bench.


In a petition, she has claimed that she had not committed blasphemy, and on the basis of personal grudge her neighbours levelled the false allegations of blasphemous remarks on her.

Aasia Bibi has been on death row since November 2010 after being found guilty by the LHC. The two stalwarts of Pakistan People’s Party Salman Taseer and Shahbaz Bhatti were murdered after asking for reforms to the blasphemy law and describing Bibi’s trail as defective.
