PESHAWAR: At least seventeen people were killed in an suicide blast on Monday in the local court in Charsadda’s Shabqadar area, private media reported.
The Jamatul Ahrar, a faction group of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), took responsibility for the suicide blast via email sent to journalists, according to details, the attack was carried out in response to the hanging of Mumtaz Qadri, killer of former Governor Punjab Salman Taseer.
While talking to media, Police Officer Sohail Khalid said, a suicide bomber was trying to enter a district court in a guise of security personnel, identified as Shabbir, caught him outside the court area, meanwhile he blew himself.
Another police officer, Saeed Wazir, said that the it seems the target was court building in the town of Shabqadar. “The suicide bomber was trying to enter the judicial complex and he blew himself when security stopped him.”
According to Radio Pakistan, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in his message said the brave police officials who embraced martyrdom in line of duty sacrificed their today to safeguard a peaceful tomorrow for our future generations.
Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Iqbal Zafar Jhagra and Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif and Chief Minister Balochistan Nawab Sanaullah Zehri have also condemned the attack.
