ISLAMABAD: Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena arrives Pakistan today on a three day official visit. This is the first visit by the new Sri Lankan President who came to his power in January of this year.
Officials told that, Sri Lankan President will pay a state visit to Pakistan from April 5 to 7 at the invitation of his counter part Mamnoon Hussain (President Pakistan) and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
“A number of memorandums of understanding and agreements of cooperation will be signed during the Sri Lankan president’s trip” the Foreign office said.
According to the experts this visit will also play vital role in discussing bilateral interests and will also affect the entire region.
During his visit he will meet Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and President Mamnon Hussain, who will host a state banquet in his honour.
Earlier, Mr Sirissena’s predecessor Mahinda Rajapaksa was to visit Islamabad in August last year but could not do so because of the on going PTI’s sit-in.
Pakistan and Sri Lanka have strong relationship based on defence cooperation. Pakistan also defended Sri Lanka at the UN Human Rights council on the allegations raised over Sri Lanka of abuses in the civil war.
Officials said that now both of the countries would be participating to build trade and economic relations with each other.
