RAWALPINDI: The courageous Pakistan Army officer Lt-Col (retd) Zafar Abbasi Ghazi, whose limbs got dump while protecting the country at the world’s highest battlefront Siachen, passed away on Saturday.
He was under treatment at the Combined Military Hospital in Rawalpindi and passed away on Saturday as family sources confirmed.
The officer’s devotional valour was immortalized in the minds of Pakistanis after his character was portrayed as Captain Kashif in the most popular Pakistan Television drama serial ‘Alpha Bravo Charlie, an ISPR production depicting the story of Lt-Col Zafar Abbasi Ghazi.
During his serving at the summit of Siachen, the Army captain Zafar Abbasi Ghazi caught frostbite and lost all his limbs – legs and arms – in 1987; however, he dismissed to get retirement and continued serving and became Lieutenant Colonel afterwards.
As paying tribute to his highly commendable services and devotion, the play Alpha Bravo Charlie characterized his role played by Major-General Abdullah Mehmood, who was also serving captain in the Pakistan Army at the time the play was shot and aired to critical acclaim.
