ISLAMABAD: The President of Pakistan Mamnnon Hussain has appointed Senator Malik Muhammad Rafique Rajwana as new Governor Punjab after the designation vacated by Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar Khan on January 29, 2015.
Rafique Rajwana is from Multan (Southern Punjab) and has been active in politics since 1979. He started his political career by the election of Municipal Councilor in 1979. He contested general elections in 1985 for provincial seat from Multan but lost. He is currently the General Secretary of the Pakistan Mulsim League Multan City. He remained associated with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) throughout his political career.
First time he was entered in Senate in January 1998 against the Punjab seat vacated by Justice (R) Muhammad Rafiq Tarar on the eve of his election as the President of Pakistan. Second time he become the member Senate in March 2012.
After getting new appointment Rajwana said, “I will make all-out effort to serve the people of the province.” He assured the Prime Minister of Paksitan Nawaz Sharif that he will come up to the expectations of the leadership.
Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar Khan was the predecessor Governor Punjab who assumed the Governor House on August 5, 2013. As a Governor, he criticized Nawaz Government openly on many occasions. Chaudhry Sarwar wanted to resolve the case of overseas Pakistanis whose properties were confiscated by the Pakistani land mafia in Pakistan. But Chaudhry Sarwar failed in redressing their problems successfully. When Barack Obama visited to India in January 2015, Chaudhry Sarwar categorically had said that it is the failure of Nawaz Sharif government. These anti-government remarks led to his early resignation. He remained the Governor Punjab for almost 19 months.
After leaving the desigining of Governor Punjab on January 29, 2015, he joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf on February 8, 2015.
