ISLAMABAD: Meeting of the Senate is going to be held today at 3 p.m. to discuss country’s political situation and various national issues according to statement released by Senate of Pakistan.
The Senate will meet at 3 p.m. under the chairmanship of Syed Nayar Hussain Bokhari. The session is also expected to discuss the draft of 22nd amendment and the issue of KPK to pay the accumulated net hydro power profits.
This week is likely to be the last week of the Senate’s sessions as Senate elections are going to be held on March 05 on the 52 seats of retiring Senators who will retire on March 11. Pooling will take place on March 05 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Election Commission of Pakistan has already released the list of final contesting candidates. 131 candidates are contesting against 52 seats. 84 candidates are contesting for General Seats, 21 for Seats Reserved for Women, 18 for Seats Reserved for Ulema/Technocrats and 8 for Seats Reserved for Non-Muslims.
Senators who will retire on March 11 includes 21 of Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarian (PPP-P), 6 of Awami National Party (ANP), 1 of Pakhtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PKMAP), 3 of Mutahidda Qaumi Movement (MQM), 3 of Jamiatul-Ulema-e-Islam (F) (JUI-F), 2 of Balochistan National Party Awami (BNP-A), 1 of National Party (NP), 8 of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), 1 of Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q), and 6 Independent (IND).
