Salman Taseer vigil attackers sentenced five years by ATC

LAHORE : On Monday, An anti-terrorism court (ATC) sentenced five people for attacking a candlelight vigil organized to mark death anniversary of Salman Taseer (former Punjab governor).

ATC judge Haroon Latif has announced five year prison terms to Adeel, Farhan and Kashif. Two other men, Iftikhar and Wazir Ali have been sent to jail for three years. The court has cleared two suspects, Din Muhammad and Sajid by giving them the benefit of the doubt, during the hearing.

The defense counsel said that the accused were not involved in the attack. He added, “They have been implicated in a false case.”

Four to five people appeared at the scene, Before thrashing up the participants of the pray, they snatched and torn the placards and photos of Salman Taseer.

On January 4, 2015, some people had attacked participants of a candle light pray organized to mark the death anniversary of Salman Taseer ex-governor. People were gathered at Liberty Chowk to mark the death anniversary of ex-governor of Punjab, He was killed by his own guard, “Mumtaz Qadri” in large day light in Islamabad in December 2011.
