Nisar Ali Khan has asked the retired army officers to be watchful of the consequences of their public declarations, especially as they pertain to the recent situation prevailing in the country.
The statement of the Interior Minister was a reaction to the earlier public statement made by former DG-ISPR, Maj. Gen (retd) Athar Abbas ,two days earlier, in which he divulged that former army chief Gen (retd) Ashfaq Pervez kiyani was hesitant in launching a military operation in North Waziristan Agency.
Responding to the media questions over former DG-ISPR’s statement, Nisar said ” It is need of the hour that people who remained engaged in making important decisions of grave national importance, must exhibit reserved and maturer demeanor, in the larger interest of the country. In today’s age of media boom, any carelessness can generate an adverse ripple effect.”
He further added, “ At this critical juncture, making National Security decisions made by retired or serving military leadership, debatable, can only aggravate the existing situation, in the country.”
Later, interior minister invoked the media to be watchful and prudent, instead of stirring up controversies on issues of grave national importance, especially in times when national consensus is much required.
