LAHORE/Karachi: The polling for by-elections underway in Punjab and Sindh.
The decision was taken by Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to delay the elections on the recommendation of Sindh Government specially in Sanghar and Badin districts, in wake of sensitive security situation.
Different union councils of 21 districts of Punjab and 15 disticts in Sindh having by-elections today.
About last phse of LG polls held in Punjab and Sindh on Dec 5:
Polling in 12 districts of Punjab and six of Karachi was began at 7:30 on Saturday amid tight security and ended at 5:30. After Election Commission’s denying to extend the polling time.
Nearly all the polling stations in all six districts of Karachi were provided tight security after being declared ‘sensitive’ for security reasons, with only 234 of the 4,141 stations categorized as normal.
On the other hand, 9,970 polling stations out of 14,012 were declared normal in the 12 districts of Punjab.
Couple of incidents of irregularities and fake polling stations in Karachi have been reported; however, no lethal incident has been reported from the polling districts so far.
As per the results of the polling in all the mentioned districts, the presiding officers and the other polling officials have started counting the votes. It is expected that the results will begin to appear within two hours.
