KARACHI: Finally, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) files defamation petition of Rs 2 billion against Sadruddin Hashwani, a business magnate, owner of Hashoo Group, Marriott Hotel and chains of five star hotels, in response to his allegations against former president of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari for his involvement in the 2008 suicide attack at Marriott Hotel Islamabad that resulted in the killing of over 50 people.
Senator Farooq Naek, the legal advisor of Mr. Zardari, said at a joint press conference, “We have filed the defamation case against Mr. Hashwani in Sindh High Court after he did not respond to our 15 days legal notice.”
The clash started from biography of Hashwani ‘Truth Always Prevails’ in which he alleged that Mr. Zardari was the master planner of attack on the Marriott Hotel, Islamabad and Ex. President wanted to grab some of his business and properties also. “Mr. Zardari tried to kill me also when he was in government”, Hashwani alleges in his book.
First hearing of the petition would be held in Sindh High Court (SHC) on Feb 6 in which Mr. Hashwani would have to prove the allegations.
