ISLAMABAD: Ruling party Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has decided to appoint Pervez Malik instead of Ayaz Sadiq as a new Speaker of National Assembly.
The move made following the poor performance by Ayaz Sadiq in the recently held re-polling in NA-122 where he hardly succeeded against PTI’s candidate.
The sources said that the incumbent party is considering Pervez Malik as a news speaker of National Assembly instead of former Ayaz Sadiq who was declared illegible by Elections Commission of Pakistan few months ago.
The party has taken all the supporting parties into trust to make the decision and has got counsel from Hamza Shahbaz, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, and Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif to decide Pervez for the post of speaker.
Pervez Malik was elected Member of National Assembly from the interior Lahore’s constituency NA-123 in the general elections 2013. He bagged 126,877 against PTI’s Asif Chaudhry who legged behind with a massive difference of more than eighty thousand votes.
Previously, Ayaz Sadiq was made the speaker of National Assembly soon after PML-N emerged triumphant in the general elections. However, as opposition parties, especially PTI, have been protested since the PML-N came into power.
The continuous demand of PTI chairman Imran Khan made Ayaz Sadiq to leave the seat and contest again from his constituency.
