Performance is first priority, not captaincy, says Misbah


Lahore: The captain of Pakistan cricket team Misbah Ul Haq said that PCB should focus to groom the new captains for future. And that it is the responsibility of the board to determine the captain for the team.


The senior member of the team expressed his views after the training session in Gadafi Stadium Lahore. He said that his focus is on his performance rather than on captaincy.

Moreover, the 40 year batsman said that central contract should be conditioned on the basis of performance of the players which will result in professionalism among the players. Misbah, while talking to the media, said that it is determined by the board that who should lead the team and that he only concentrates on his game.


The current captain also suggested few names for the future captain of the team. According to him, Azhar Ali and Umer Akmal can be plausible candidates for captaincy. He urged the board to take initiatives to groom these players for the leadership in the future. By taking such decisions, the concerning players will be mentally prepared for the responsibility they are going to take. He explained that these players are currently leading their domestic teams and hence they have got a little bit experience in this regard.

The middle order batsman also viewed about the peace attacker of the team by declared Muhammad Irfan as the fatal weapon of the team who could alone destroy the opposite team by his sharp bowling. Muhammad Irfan is a distinct bowler of the world due to his peculiar height.

Misbah also opined about the current coach of the team by saying that there is no suspicion on the honesty of  Waqar Younus who works really hard and with passion to polish the players. And it is expected that the team will show good performance under his coaching.
