ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Raheel Sharif said that parliament is the legal authority to decide about Pakistan’s role in Yemen conflict on request of Saudi Arabia.
Talking to the media at Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF) Wah Cantt, the COAS said, “The debate is going on; let us see what will be decided.” The statement of Pak Army Chief came at the time when parliamentarian were debating about the role of Pakistan in Yemen conflict on request of Saudi Arabia.
Couple of days before, Saudi Arab has requested Pakistan to join Arab states against Houthi rebels and asks for Jet Fighters, Naval Ships and ground troops.
Meanwhile, COAS was briefed by Chairman POF about performance of their chain of factories and expansion plans till 2020. COAS had a detailed visit of the production facilities. Addressing to the management and staff, COAS said, “POF is the first defense industry of Pakistan that is playing vital role to sustain combat worthiness of Pakistan Armed Forces. He appreciated the efforts of POF for meeting the ammunition demand of Pak Army in ongoing operation Zarb-e-Azb in North Waziristan.
Replying to a question about performance on Zarb-e-Azb, COAS said that military had controlled immeasurable zones in North and South Waziristan and now Taliban are bound to the little packet in the Pak-Afghan fringe range. “It will be completed successfully soon,” he added.
