Planning and Development Minister Ahsan Iqbal has said PML-N government has to face the widespread political chaos in the country due to their decision to trial former president Pervez Musharraf under Article 6 of the Constitution.
“This is the only reason that the PML-N is facing all the difficulties, ” Iqbal said while speaking in a news conference at the party’s Central Secretariat here on Wednesday.
Mr. Iqbal, who also holds the position of deputy secretary general of the PML-N, expressed his grief over the prevailing current political tensions and said it would be over if government stopped pursuing the case against the former military chief.
“If we also bow down (before their demands), the political horizon will clear up,” he said, adding that “friends of Musharraf” were out to destabilize democracy. “They are desperate to save the former president.”
The minister over ruled the perception that the PML-N was against the armed forces and said that forcing trial on a former general did not mean that PML-N was against the army. “The party has great respect for the army as an institution which has been rendering great services for the country’s defense.”
